Happy 10th Birthday Becca! ^_^

Becca Cosmetics is celebrating their 10 year anniversary!

As most of my readers will know, I'm a huge fan of this Australian brand.  It's really the first brand that really worked for me and started my obsession with makeup.  It's a high-end, cult brand and is renowned for enhancing natural beauty.

"The whole philosophy of BECCA is about creating a natural, flawless look. It's really about skin looking amazing - everything else is secondary."
- Rebecca Morrice Williams, Founder
To do this, their products are made with the best technology to cleverly meld well with the skin as if it were completely natural.  Their products also have ingredients that are good for the skin such as high sun protection, vitamins, etc, and are all dermatologically tested.  They have products that are also great for sensitive skin, which are fragrance-free and alcohol-free.  Some are also paraben-free if you're concerned about that.  They are not tested on animals.

Becca is one of the few brands that create products that suit a range of skin tones from the fairest to the darkest, whether you're skin base is warm, neutral, yellow or pink.  They even go as specific as neutral/yellow, neutral/pink, neutral/yellow, etc.  They have one of the largest range (if not the largest) of foundation and concealer colours (30 and 34 respectively to be exact!), so you are bound to find one that fits you perfectly!  I personally, have not yet encountered another brand that has a wider range.  I don't understand why more cosmetics brands don't do this!

I can say plenty more good things about this brand and why I love it, but I'll stop there for now. :)  If you want to know more, please visit their official website.  I cannot recommend them highly enough!

About the Anniversary Palettes!
I'm very excited that they have recently released a couple of new products to celebrate their 10 year anniversary and as soon as I heard and they became available to purchase online, I just had to get at least one (despite owning a lot of their products already!). :)
The lovely thing about these palettes is that a percentage of its sales will be donated towards Charity Water, which is a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations.  How cool is that?! ^_^

There are two lip, cheek and eye anniversary palettes, which are both limited edition:
  • Dusty Rose
  • Vintage Jewel
Each palette contains four colours.  I purchased the Vintage Jewel simply because it has 3 new colours and are exclusive to this palette.  The Dusty Rose has 1 new colour - also exclusive to that palette.  I already have 2 of the colours from Dusty Rose that I purchased individually before, hence my choice! :-)  They're so pigmented that you only need a bit at a time, so for me, I do not need to repurchase those colours.

The Dusty Rose palette contains:
  • Crème Blush in Turkish Rose: rosy nude (permanent)
  • Lip & Cheek Crème in Tuberose: coral pink (permanent)
  • Crème Highlighter in Narcissus: opalescent peach (limited, re-promoted from the 'Fallen Angel' makeup palette)
  • Lip Gloss in Cassini: pink (new, limited & exclusive)
The Vintage Jewel palette contains (see descriptions and photos of the quad further down below!):
  • Crème Blush in Hyacinth (permanent)
  • Lip & Cheek Crème in Snapdragon (new, limited & exclusive)
  • Crème Highlighter in Beechnut (new, limited & exclusive)
  • Lip Gloss in Cosmopolitan (new, limited & exclusive)
Size
Each of the four products inside the palette is 1.5g / 0.05 oz.  For comparison, the Lip & Cheek in Crème in particular, is half what you would normally get in the palette compared to the individual item that is sold from their permanent line.  The overall size of the compact of the palette itself is the same as the compact of the Becca Mineral Bronzing Powder in Duende in terms of circumference, but the anniversary compact is a tad deeper (or taller in height) and therefore, slightly bigger overall.  See comparison photo below.

The Packaging

This round palette is a bit different from other Becca palettes which are rectangular.  The anniversary compact comes with a gorgeous chocolate pouch that has an easy-clean nylon exterior (soft-sided construction), and a zip closure.  (Not all the Becca compacts come with a pouch.  The only other product I know of which I don't own that has a pouch is their Fine Pressed Powder).  The zip puller and 'Becca' logo stitched on the front are a dark brown leather.  The inside lining of the pouch is also dark brown and it has a similar feel as a chamois.  I like this because I can imagine that the fibres of the material can 'grip' clean any of the dirt and dust that may be on the compact and keeps it clean and the polished aluminium plating scratch-free.  The exterior design is consistent with and matches nicely with my Becca Deluxe Travel Toiletry Bag!  =)  Love the pouch.
Interior lining of the pouch.

The 'disc' shaped compact mostly consistent with the rest of Becca's line of eye, cheek colour and complexion compacts.  They all come with a mirror on the underside of the compact lid.  Very sleek, modern design.  The compact is in their signature dark brown/chocolate colour that has a  rubbery feel or texture to it - similar to the Nars compacts, which means it can get a tad dirty, but it's not as glaringly obvious as on the Nars compacts because it's brown rather than black.  Also, the Nars compact feels a bit smoother or more slippery than the Becca ones.  The difference with the new anniversary compacts compared with their permanent compacts is the aluminium plating bit at the top that has the 'B E C C A' label engraved on it.  The anniversary palette has a polished aluminium plating and therefore, is much more reflective and finger prints are more likely to show up on it, whereas the permanent compact has a brushed aluminium plating giving it a more 'matte' finish and doesn't show marks/prints as easily.  I don't mind it as I usually try to handle all my compacts carefully and keep them fairly clean.  I do prefer the brush aluminium as it has a much more modern and slightly 'industrial' feel to it, but I do like the fact that Becca has made the anniversary palette a bit more polished and different from the usual line - makes it a bit more special I think! :-) (See photo below and one of the photos above for photo comparing with the mineral bronzing powder compact).

You can see how reflective the polished aluminium plating is.
Please excuse my messy hair! (Just got out of bed pretty much when I took this!)

I have had issues with the compact before though in that it can break easily - see my previous post about it under the 'Packaging' heading.  So far I've only had it happen to one of the lip and cheek compacts.  But, it something to be weary of.  Another issue is that since the compacts all look the same, you have to open it to see which product it is, especially if the sticker label underneath the compact fades!  A little annoying.  Perhaps Becca will do something about those one day! ;-)

Vintage Jewel: The Colours and Formulation
  • Crème Blush in Hyacinth: bright watermelon pink
  • Lip & Cheek Crème in Snapdragon: bright orange pink
  • Crème Highlighter in Beechnut: golden bronze
  • Lip Gloss in Cosmopolitan: deep berry shimmer
Below are the photos of what's inside the palette.  Pretty, huh? ^_^

You may notice in the photo above some condensation.  According to the FAQ answer on the Becca website regarding this:
"Some crème products (especially Crème Blush and Crème Eye Colour) are prone to ‘sweating’ in high humidity. This is natural. As the product absorbs moisture from the air, the oil floats to the product’s surface. BECCA does not use chemical binders to stop this. It does not affect the product, or its usage, and will disappear when the humidity drops."
In the pan, the colours appear more earthy, warm and rich, but once swatched/applied, the 'Snapdragon' and 'Hyacinth' are more bright and vibrant - very spring/summer appriopriate.  The orange and golden sheen of 'Snapdragon' appears in the pan and when swatched and applied on the lips, but when blended out onto the cheeks the shimmer can't be seen except at certain angles where you notice a sheen.  Being partial to pink, I'm not quite used to orange on the cheeks yet, but I love the way the way it looks and feels on the lips as it imparts a beautiful subtle orange and golden sheen.  However, it will definitely flatter darker skin toned beauties. :)  The key to applying 'Snapdragon' on the lips is to only use a tiny bit.  Too much makes it impossible to apply and it just won't meld to the lips!  When this happens, you need to take some off with a tissue.  The 'Hyacinth' is more matte in appearance compared to the 'Snapdragon'.  The 'Cosmopolitan' applies sheerly and the shimmers are barely noticeable until you build the colour a bit more to the lips then they become a bit more obvious up close.  This lip gloss tho sheer, imparts enough colour to give a lovely plummy depth to my naturally pigmented lips - very autumn/winter/holiday appropriate.  The 'Beechnut' is definitely the one that gave the most impact and intensity!  My, this colour packs a punch!  While it is dupable, it's a colour you can't get enough of.  I can see myself using this often on my eye lids on its own or as a base.  You can apply this lightly to give a wash of gold sheen, or build it up to a much more intense metallic colour by dabbing it on with finger tips.

This time, Lip Gloss in 'Cosmopolitan' applied on top of a natural/nude beige rose lip liner.
A small amount of Lip & Cheek Crème in 'Snapdragon' directly onto my lips (no liner or anything).

The emollient cream formulation of the cheek and lip & cheek creams may mean you need to set it with a powder and prime underneath so it lasts longer.  In general, these products meld well with the skin that it looks very natural when blended well as if kissed by the sun!

Overall, I absolutely love the colours in this palette.  Noteably, the 'Snapdragon' I think is very pretty on the lips as it adds a lovely sheen and dimension, and I will definitely experiment with this more by layering it on top of other colours.  The 'Beechnut' is amazing for the eyes and cheeks - it's so intense!

Price & Availability
AU$75 each exclusive only from Becca's online store (currently Australia only, but keep checking as it should be made available to online customers to the rest of the world soon!).

Summary
Very festive and I think it's perfectly put together to celebrate Becca's anniversary.  It would suit most skin tones, especially darker skin tones.  While, the 'Dusty Rose' anniversary palette would look particularly pretty on fairer skin tones.  Whichever palette you choose (also depending on what you own already from the Becca range), you can't go wrong.  They are absolutely beautiful.

Highly recommend.  I am in love with it.  If you love high quality, multi-purpose cream products and 'on-the-go easy to use with fingers' compacts, with colours to die for, then look no further.  Don't forget, if you purchase, you will also be helping Charity Water!

As usual, I would love to read your comments/questions below! x
What do you think of this palette?  Is it not gorgeous?
