WHATS ON: Nottingham Contemporary launch new exhibition

Yesterday we went to the launch of Nottingham Contemporary's new show.

I love a good art launch - especially when it is sponsored by a vodka company so I was happy.  The show was incredible.
I was really into the work by Michael Beutler which is a huge installation which you can walk around. While you can't really touch the walls because they are so delicate, you can walk into the different rooms, hallways and sit on a giant rug. I was immediately drawn to this. I'm a sucker for brightly colored, interactive art so this was totally my thing. It must have taken hours to install this work.
The work, entitled 'Pump House' will be open for visits until the 25th of September.

I really didn't want to get off the rug. I loved it there. I was joined by several children who were making good use of the soft texture for rolling on. Which looked like fun.

The second artist in the collection is Yelena Popova with 'After Image' which is a completely different experience. Its more minimalist with neutral colors and graphic lines. I have to admit, I prefer mental exhibitions with color and texture so this wasn't for me. Although Joe liked it. This is the difference with us!

The launch was also sponsored by Absolut vodka who created the most gorgeous cocktails on the night. I'm not normally one for ginger beer but these were gorgeous!

We didn't stay for the music or the street food as we were both exhausted after work but it was really fun. I'm looking forward to more art now that I'm back in Nottingham! I think today sees the street art festival launch a street food festival in Sneinton at twelve.
